The Indiana Room is open Monday through Thursday from 10:00am to 7:00pm and Friday from 10:00am-5:30pm.

The Indiana Room is located on the second floor of the Anderson Public Library, next to the Children’s Department.

No. The Indiana Room is a non-circulating collection. You may, however, take non-flash pictures of any materials or make scans and copies. We can also assist you with requesting a circulating copy of material via Interlibrary Loan.

Yes! Indiana Room staff are happy to help you with genealogy and local history research. We can help you get started with your family history, suggest research strategies, assist you in locating records, and show you how to use our print collections and online resources. We are also happy to answer questions and provide guidance as you conduct your research. It is recommended to schedule a 1-1 appointment by calling the Indiana Room at (765) 641-2442, emailing us at indiana@andersonlibrary.net, or by submitting an online request here.

To ensure we can assist all patrons, staff cannot conduct extensive research on your behalf. If you need in-depth genealogical research, you may wish to hire a professional genealogist or independent researcher.

We have collected and bound Madison County obituaries taken from local newspapers from 1968-2025 available at the library. We also have access to local and national newspaper databases. Library staff are happy to assist you with locating an obituary. You can also check to see if an obituary is available by searching our obituary index here.

First, check if a genealogy database such as FamilySearch or Ancestry has a digitized version of the record. If not, you will most likely have to reach out to your local health department to request a birth or death record.

The Indiana Room has the Madison County Marriage Record Books from 1880-1949 which include the original application and certificate. Many marriage licenses have been digitized on genealogical databases.

Please note that if you need the marriage license for official or legal purposes, they must be requested through the county clerk’s office where the marriage occurred.
