The American Red Cross provides assistance to individuals and families affected by disasters. Depending on individual circumstances and available services, assistance may include help with immediate disaster-related needs and connections to additional recovery resources.

The Christian Center – Shelter & Crisis Assistance

The Christian Center provides established shelter and crisis services for people experiencing homelessness or other serious hardships.

Services include:

• Housing for women and their children through The Well

 Report Damage 

Indiana 211 Damage Reporting

Indiana 211 is accepting residential damage reports from Madison County for the severe weather beginning August 11, 2026.

Reporting damage helps the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and local officials determine the extent of the disaster and whether additional disaster-recovery assistance may be needed.

Important: Reporting damage is not an application for financial assistance and does not guarantee that assistance will become available.

Document Your Damage

If it is safe to do so:

• Take photographs and video before removing damaged property.
• Photograph visible water lines and structural damage.
• Make a list of damaged or destroyed belongings.
• Keep receipts for cleanup, emergency repairs, temporary housing, and other flood-related expenses.
• Contact your insurance company.
• Keep copies of insurance correspondence and repair estimates.

Do not enter a building that may be structurally unsafe.

Recovery Assistance

Mercy Road Church 

Mercy Road Church has established an Anderson Flood Relief effort specifically for individuals and families affected by the current flooding.

Assistance may include:

• Temporary housing
• Food and essential needs
• Cleanup and recovery supplies
• Essential household items
• Necessary repairs
• Transportation
• Other reasonable flood-recovery expenses

Assistance is based on demonstrated flood-related need and available resources.

Applicants may be asked to provide documentation showing how they were affected, such as photographs of damage, evacuation information, insurance or repair documentation, receipts, estimates, or other verification.

You do not need to attend Mercy Road Church or have a religious affiliation to receive assistance.

Heart of Indiana United Way – Flood Recovery Fund

Heart of Indiana United Way has established a Flood Recovery Fund to support long-term recovery for individuals and families affected by the flooding.

The fund serves:

• Madison County
• Delaware County
• Fayette County
• Henry County
• Randolph County

Heart of Indiana United Way states that 100% of donations to the Flood Recovery Fund will go directly to local long-term flood relief and recovery efforts.

This is primarily a long-term recovery resource, rather than an application for immediate individual financial assistance.

Information about how individuals and families can access assistance through long-term recovery efforts will be added as those programs are established.
