Indiana State Disaster Relief Fund - Individual Assistance

Indiana’s State Disaster Relief Fund will provide up to $5,000 in emergency assistance to eligible Hoosiers impacted by recent storms and severe weather. The State Disaster Relief Fund is intended to help with immediate needs. Funds are available for eligible applicants up to $5,000. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee you will receive funds.

FEMA – Individual Assistance

Important: Reporting damage through Indiana 211 or applying for Indiana State Disaster Relief Fund assistance does notautomatically register you for FEMA assistance. A separate FEMA application is required.

Madison County has been approved for FEMA Individual Assistance following the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding beginning August 11, 2026.

FEMA Individual Assistance may provide financial assistance and other services to eligible individuals and households with disaster-related needs and expenses that are uninsured or underinsured.

Apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.

If you have insurance, FEMA recommends filing a claim with your insurance company as soon as possible. FEMA cannot provide assistance for losses already covered by insurance.

American Red Cross Financial Assistance

The American Red Cross is offering financial assistance to households with qualifying major damage from the August storms and flooding. To be eligible, the damaged home must have been the household’s primary residence in a confirmed disaster-impacted area, the head of household must provide proof of identity and residence, and the home must have been destroyed or sustained significant structural damage requiring extensive repairs. Homes that remain livable while repairs are made are not eligible for this particular financial assistance program. Red Cross disaster assistance is not a loan and does not need to be repaid.

REALTORS® Relief Foundation – Individual Assistance

Eligible Indiana homeowners and renters impacted by the August storms may apply for up to $1,000 in housing-related assistance through the REALTORS® Relief Foundation and MIBOR REALTOR® Association.

Assistance may be used toward a mortgage payment for a disaster-damaged primary residence, rental costs resulting from displacement, or hotel expenses resulting from displacement.

Funding is available first-come, first-served until funds are exhausted or November 11, 2026. Complete applications are generally expected to be processed within three to five business days.

HUD/FHA Mortgage – Individual Assistance

HUD has announced federal disaster protections for homeowners affected by the August disaster, including a 90-day foreclosure moratorium for FHA-insured mortgages in federally declared disaster areas.

Homeowners with an FHA-insured mortgage who are having difficulty making mortgage payments because of the disaster should contact their mortgage servicer to discuss available disaster-relief options.

Mercy Road Church Anderson Flood Relief – Individual Assistance

Mercy Road Church Anderson established the Anderson Flood Relief Fund to help individuals and families affected by the August 2026 flooding in Anderson and Madison County.

Current direct-assistance focus is short-term lodging for households that cannot safely stay in their homes. The church is also tracking other recurring flood-recovery needs to identify unmet gaps, share helpful resources, coordinate with organizations equipped to respond, and determine whether our focus should change as the recovery progresses.

Applicants may be asked to provide documentation showing how they were affected. You do not need to attend Mercy Road Church or have a religious affiliation to receive assistance.

Indiana 211 Damage Reporting  - Report Flood Damage 

Reporting damage to 211 helps the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and local officials determine the extent of the disaster and whether additional disaster-recovery assistance may be needed.

Important: Reporting damage is not an application for financial assistance and does not guarantee that assistance will become available.

Document Your Damage
If it is safe to do so:

• Take photographs and video before removing damaged property.
• Photograph visible water lines and structural damage.
• Make a list of damaged or destroyed belongings.
• Keep receipts for cleanup, emergency repairs, temporary housing, and other flood-related expenses.
• Contact your insurance company.
• Keep copies of insurance correspondence and repair estimates.

American Red Cross – Disaster Assistance

The American Red Cross provides assistance to individuals and families affected by disasters. Depending on individual circumstances and available services, assistance may include help with immediate disaster-related needs and connections to additional recovery resources. Municipal Dumpsters to Assist in Flood Recovery Efforts

50 dumpsters have been deployed in key areas affected by the flooding that occurred. Residents are free to load items into these dumpsters. Avoid hazardous materials such as chemicals, tires, paints, refrigerators, freezers and electronics should be set near the dumpster in a separate area.

A Disaster Relief group with 60 volunteers associated with the Southern Baptist Church (Southern Baptist Disaster Relief) is in Anderson, and they are doing “mucking-out” work for residents affected by the Flood at no cost.

The Salvation Army at 1615 Meridian Street has been identified in current local flood-resource information as a shelter option for residents displaced by the flooding. The Anderson Salvation Army also provides established emergency financial and social-service assistance. Rangeline Community Center – Community Flood Shelter

Rangeline Community Center has opened its facility to people who have had to evacuate their homes because of the flooding. Call ahead when possible to confirm current availability before traveling. Rangeline Community Center is operating as a community shelter. It has not been identified here as a government-operated shelter.

Mercy Road Church

Mercy Road Church is currently focusing its direct flood-relief assistance on short-term lodging for individuals and families who cannot safely stay in their homes because of the August 2026 flooding.

You do not need to attend Mercy Road Church or have any religious affiliation to receive assistance.

Mercy Road is also gathering information about the ongoing needs of flood-affected households as the community moves from immediate relief into cleanup and recovery. The information will be used to:

• Identify unmet needs and gaps in assistance
• Connect residents with available resources and referrals
• Coordinate with organizations equipped to provide assistance
• Help determine where additional flood-recovery support is most needed

Madison County Community Foundation - Flood Aid for Anderson Fund

The Flood Aid for Anderson effort is being carried forward collaboratively by Anderson AIMS, the Anderson Gaslight Festival, and the Madison County Community Foundation, with MCCF serving as the charitable steward of the fund. Application is not yet available, but is coming soon. Once it opens, residents and businesses impacted by the flood will be able to submit a request for assistance. The process will be clearly explained and designed to be easy to follow, and applications will be reviewed to help ensure available funds are distributed fairly and responsibly.
