FAQs for Parents & Teachers

If I want to bring a group to the Children's Department or schedule a library tour, who do I contact?

If you would like a program or tour for your group, please call 765-641-2448 or submit a request here. A librarian will return your call to arrange the details of your program. Please allow two weeks notice in order to ensure adequate staffing and proper preparation time.

Can I come to programs with my children?

Parents and caregivers of young children (birth-5 years) are asked to remain with them during story time. These programs are specially designed to show parents and caregivers great ways to interact with their children.

Programs for children 6-12 years of age include more involved stories and independent activities and do not require adult attendance, though adults are welcome to observe. However, please keep in mind that our Safe Child Policy states that children under the age of eight, or who have emotional or social difficulty, must be attended and adequately supervised by a parent or other responsible caregiver age twelve or older at all times while in the library.

What kinds of things can a child do on your computers?

The children's computers offer:

  • Educational games (ages 3-12) for spelling, math, and problem solving
  • Filtered Internet access
  • Word processing
  • Printing (for a nominal fee)

At the Main Library, there is a tablet kiosk that securely holds four iPads to allow children to explore games and apps curated by our librarians.
