Summer is just around the corner, and the warm weather brings with it APL's annual Summer Reading Program! This year the program will run from May 25 to July 25, with weekly prize drawings and a grand prize drawing at the end of the summer. Read anything you want -- beach reads, textbooks, magazines, eBooks -- or listen to audiobooks, and log your hours online beginning on May 25. Every five hours of reading will earn you another entry into our weekly drawings for books and gift certificates to local businesses. You may only win one weekly drawing, but keep logging your hours to earn more entries into the grand prize drawing.
This year we've added to the program to showcase other exciting things the library has to offer, including information technology, community gatherings, and research resources to explore new ideas. Complete fun activities to collect all four essential elements and spell out LiBrArY to be entered into a separate drawing for a Kindle Fire HD at the end of the summer.
Li (Learning) – attend an informational program at the library (such as a computer class), or ask a librarian for a recommendation for a book, audiobook, movie, or CD.
Br (Engagement) – attend a library program. (Bringing a child to a children’s program counts. If you attended a program to collect Li, you may not apply the same program toward Br.)
Ar (Literacy) – read or listen to audiobooks for five (5) hours.
Y (Technology) – download an eBook, digital audiobook, digital magazine, or mp3 file available through the library’s digital collections; or use one of the library’s databases to research something for school, work, or pleasure.
Once you’ve collected all four elements, fill out a simple online completion form to be entered into the grand prize drawing. You may also collect bonus elements to earn bragging rights and shout-outs on the library’s social media sites.
Stop by our Star Wars Day program this Saturday, May 3 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm to sign up early for Summer Reading and get a chance to win a door prize!
